Ken and Kitch Ayre, co-owners of Kathryn’s Bistro and Martini Bar, started with a vision.  The Maryland natives relocated to Emerald Isle in 1995 in search of warmer weather, but it didn’t take them long to realize something was missing—a fine dining restaurant.  Although Ken and Kitch did not have any previous experience in the restaurant business, they realized their dream could become a reality with just a few simple elements:  first-class service, delectable cuisine and an elegant atmosphere. 

In 2004, they put their heads together and came up with a plan.  Ken insisted that Kathryn’s offer the finest offerings of local seafood and the best steaks in the area.  Kitch was certain that a martini bar was exactly what Emerald Isle needed.  Ken and Kitch’s youngest son, Ryan, was fresh out of college and came on board as the General Manager to help pull all of the elements together.

As Kathryn’s heads into its sixth summer, the family business has become a favorite spot for both traveling visitors and grateful locals alike.  Ken has stayed true to his promise to offer only the highest quality seafood in the area and selections of Certified Angus Beef.  Ken has helped make Kathryn’s Maryland-style Crab Cakes become the restaurant’s signature entrée.  And Kathryn’s has also put a twist on traditional southern cuisine with the Carolina Classic—a spicy variation of shrimp and grits!

In addition to the menu, Kathryn’s offers nightly specials allowing for creative varieties of fish, lamb, veal, lobster and soft shell crabs.

Kitch has certainly done her part to make Kathryn’s become Emerald Isle’s favorite place to enjoy a martini!  With over 30 different variations to choose from, there is surely a martini to satisfy your heart’s desire!  Along with a full-service bar, Kathryn’s also offers an extensive selection of wines by the glass as well as by the bottle.

Launching in 2009, the Ayre family is building on the successes of Kathryn’s and responding to the needs of their customers by introducing formal and informal catering packages.  Ryan is very excited about the opportunity to combine the expertise of their staff with Kathryn’s superb food to appeal to customers’ private catering functions.
